The Sambar of 2007 was in its ninth year of the sixth generation, a kei cabover truck and microvan, with Dias Wagon passenger versions. In the following year Fuji Heavy Industries announced that it would gradually pull out of the kei class because of the investment by Toyota. The Sambar has used a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout with body on frame rather than unibody construction. Later generations used the water cooled engine from the Subaru Rex, Vivio and the Pleo.
