The Sambar of 2006 was in its eighth year of the sixth generation, a kei class truck and microvan with the 660 cc EN07 engine, available as the Dias Wagon with permanent four wheel drive. In 2006 Subaru also launched the Stella kei car in June, a different line from the cabover Sambar. The Sambar has used a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout with body on frame rather than unibody construction. Later generations used the water cooled engine from the Subaru Rex, Vivio and the Pleo.
