The Sambar of 2000 was in its second year of the sixth generation, with the wider kei body of 1,480 millimeters. A passenger car version of the Sambar Dias called the Dias Wagon was released. Initially the naturally aspirated models received single point fuel injection, the EGi, with 46 PS. Later generations used the water cooled engine from the Subaru Rex, Vivio and the Pleo. The Sambar has used a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout with body on frame rather than unibody construction.
