The first generation Pleo was discontinued in December 2009 after eleven years, a run that had begun in October 1998 in place of the Vivio. In its last year it was a simple Van A trim kei car with a 658 cc four cylinder engine, the last Pleo built by Subaru itself before the successor was manufactured by Daihatsu. The Pleo is taller than conventional kei car hatchbacks, but shorter than the definitive microvan, the Suzuki Wagon R.
