In June 1999 Subaru launched the Nesta, a retro styled and better equipped Pleo with a new front end that carried a chrome grille and twin round headlights. A sporty LS edition followed in October and an Le edition in December. At the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show the maker also showed an LPG powered prototype, named the Pleo Nicot, with a modernized Nesta front. The Pleo is taller than conventional kei car hatchbacks, but shorter than the definitive microvan, the Suzuki Wagon R.
