The Lancaster ADA, Active Driving Assist, was introduced in September 1999 in Japan. The first generation Outback of 1999 was in its final model year in North America, a raised Legacy wagon with all wheel drive, a flat four engine and body cladding, and the second generation would arrive as its own model with the US spec Outback available starting in 2000. Aside from small differences in trim, the Outback shares almost all of its components with the Legacy donor model.
