In 2018 the fifth generation Impreza was in its second year, a compact car with the new Subaru Global Platform and a 2.0 liter direct injected boxer four, built for North America at Lafayette, Indiana. The WRX, a separate model by this time, kept the turbo boxer and all wheel drive that its name promises, as Subaru wanted to keep its rally lineage alive.
