The fourth generation Forester was unveiled at the November 2012 Guangzhou Motor Show, followed by the 2013 New York International Auto Show. Japan models went on sale in November 2012 with the EyeSight driver assist system, and United States models went on sale in March 2013 as 2014 model year vehicles. The 2014 Forester added X-Mode for harder conditions on and off the road. The facelift was revealed in October 2015 and reached the United States in April 2016 for the 2017 model year. Its model years run from 2013 to 2018.
