Asian models of the fourth generation went on sale in March 2013 as the 2014 model year, and United States models went on sale in March 2013 as 2014 model year vehicles. Production of the earlier generation ran only until 2012, and the Forester of 2013 was the first year of the new generation. The X-Mode AWD control system was developed for driving on uneven or slippery road conditions. The 2.0i models offered a six speed manual or the Lineartronic CVT, while the 2.0XT used the Lineartronic CVT.
