The Forester S added a viscous limited slip differential for the 2000 model year, with rear disc brakes and 16 inch alloy wheels on 215/60R16 tires, where the L used 15 inch steel wheels. In 2000, for the 2001 model year, Subaru updated the exterior with a modest facelift to the front, rear and sides and the dashboard. The Forester was first introduced as the Streega concept at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show. In its home market the Forester replaced the Impreza Gravel Express, sold in the United States as the Outback Sport.
