The Mark I was the original Silver Spirit and Silver Spur, introduced by Rolls-Royce in 1980 as the first of a new generation of company models. It formed the basis for the Flying Spur, Silver Dawn, Touring Limousine, Park Ward and the Bentley Mulsanne and Eight series. The Spur and Spirit carried over the basic design of the Silver Shadow, its 6.75 liter L410 V8 and General Motors THM400 three speed automatic, in unitary bodywork styled after the Camargue. Its model years run from 1980 to 1989.
