The Nine's 1,087 cubic centimeter four cylinder engine had hemispherical combustion chambers with the valves inclined at 45 degrees in a crossflow head, and to save the expense of overhead camshafts the valves were worked by two high mounted camshafts through short pushrods and rockers. The cone clutch quickly gave way to a plate clutch and later an ENV pre selector gearbox. The car was designed largely by the brothers Percy and Stanley Riley. Its model years run from 1926 to 1938.
