After the 1926 launch, production of the Mark 1 Nine actually started in 1927 at Percy Riley's engine factory, because of some resistance in the main works to the new design. The car was largely designed by Percy and Stanley Riley, Stanley being responsible for the chassis, suspension and body and the older Percy designing the engine, which was mounted in the chassis by a rubber bushed bar through the block.
