The P38A of 1995 was the second-generation Range Rover in its first full year, with a 4.0-litre V8 of 190 horsepower and a 4.6-litre of 230 horsepower from the Lucas GEMS era, and a 136 horsepower BMW 2.5-litre diesel with an aluminium inlet manifold in the early cars. Its electronic air suspension offered five ride heights, and the BorgWarner transfer box chose high and low range with an electric control. The Classic was still on sale beside it.
