For 1965 the 225 cubic inch slant six became the base engine in the United States, while Canada kept the smaller 170. A 273 Commando V8 with a four barrel carburetor and a hotter camshaft raised output to 235 horsepower, and a Formula S package added the Commando engine, suspension upgrades, larger wheels and a tachometer. Disc brakes and factory air conditioning were available after the model year began.
