The 1956 Ambassadors were heavily restyled at the rear with big lollipop taillights and offered in two and three tone color schemes. The line was cut to Super sedans with six cylinder engines, V8 powered Super and Custom sedans and the Custom Country Club hardtop, with the Packard V8 enlarged and available all year. In April American Motors introduced its own 190 horsepower V8 for the Ambassador Special and the Hudson Hornet Special.
