The Morris Major and its Austin Lancer sister car were built by BMC Australia from 1958, and 1964 was the last year of the Major Elite. The cars had evolved from the original Series I of 1958 through the Series II of 1959 to the Elite of 1962, which had telescopic rear shock absorbers, stronger axle shafts, seat belt mounting points and uprated front suspension rubbers. The Elite had been introduced in 1962.
