Morris acquired the British interests of Hotchkiss in 1923 and renamed them the Morris engines branch, which meant that the maker of the engines of the Cowley now belonged to Morris. The Oxford used the same 1.5 liter 26 horsepower engine as the Cowley until 1923, when the two cars began to differ in their power plants. The Cowley had already been on sale for eight years. The Oxford and the Cowley formed the whole Morris car range of the time.
