The Mark I Morris 1100 was launched on 15 August 1962 as a four door saloon in Britain, with the two door saloon for export only. The first Morris 1100 and MG 1100 cars were produced at Cowley in March 1962. Marketing material highlighted the spacious cabin when compared to competitors in the UK by 1964, which included the more conservative Ford Anglia, Vauxhall Viva and BMC's own still popular Morris Minor. In March 1966 a three door Traveller estate became available. Its model years run from 1962 to 1967.
