The hardtop was discontinued in May 1990 with the Diamante as its successor, and in October 1990 the Sigma, the sister car of the Diamante, succeeded the private sedan, including the V6 2.0 liter one, which ended, leaving only the 1.8 liter taxi version. The taxi version was improved with side door beams as an option. In North America the Mitsubishi Sigma was sold as a 1990 model. Sigma was a model name that Mitsubishi used on several vehicles based on the Galant and the Diamante.
