With the arrival of the sixth generation in October 1987 the sedan lineup of the Sigma was cut to the V6 2.0 liter and the 1.8 liter LPG taxi version, while the hardtop went on as it was. The suffix Sigma dropped off the Galant name, which returned to a plain Galant for the first time since the second generation, and the three diamond emblem returned. Australia built the Sigma until 1987. Sigma was a model name that Mitsubishi used on several vehicles based on the Galant and the Diamante.
