Sales of the Galant Lambda ended in October 1984, and the Galant Sigma hardtop and the Starion were its successors. It had been a two door hardtop sold since 1976 under the names Galant Lambda and Eterna Lambda in Japan and Sapporo, Scorpion, Plymouth Sapporo and Dodge Challenger abroad. The name Galant is French for gallant and brilliant, and the Greek letter Lambda stands for L, meaning luxury car. The Galant Lambda was sold at the Galant stores, while its sister car the Eterna Lambda was sold at the Car Plaza stores.
