In January 1988, as the bubble economy and the kei class horsepower war heated up, an aero kit version of the Turbo, called the Turbo ZEO, was introduced to compete with the Suzuki Alto Works and the Daihatsu Mira Turbo TR-XX, with the same 50 PS carbureted engine as the regular Turbo. Sales were low, and sales of the fifth generation fell to under 27,000 cars in 1988. Air conditioning finally became an option. The Minica was much more spacious inside with its tall-boy design.
