The five door hatchback version of the ninth generation Lancer, known as the Sportback, was introduced for the Canadian market in spring 2009, and in the United States for the 2010 model year in mid 2009. In Malaysia the Lancer was updated in 2009, and in Japan the older Lancer Cedia was sold from 2009 under the Cedia name alone, available as the Cedia Select and Cedia Sports. The Lancer Evolution X was built on this generation.
