The ninth generation Lancer in 2010 was sold in Japan as the Galant Fortis beside the older Lancer Cedia, which was sold until 2010. Later Fortis variants had the 143 PS 1.8 liter 4B10 engine, and the 2.0 liter Fortis models were discontinued by 2010. A Malaysian EX variant was launched in July 2010, and the European diesel was sold to September 2010. Between its introduction in 1973 and 2008 over six million Lancers were sold.
