The second generation Galant was introduced on 24 May 1973 in Japan, on sale from 1 June, and was more widely exported as Mitsubishi's ambitions grew, built from 1973 until its replacement in 1976. It was again sold by Chrysler in many guises: as the Dodge Colt in the United States, the Plymouth Colt and Plymouth Cricket in Canada from 1974, and the Chrysler Valiant Galant in Australia. A larger 1.7 liter engine arrived on the GS in January 1973 and a cleaner MCA-II 1.6 in March 1973. Its model years run from 1973 to 1975.
