The eighth generation Galant of 2000 was more curvaceous and influenced by the contemporary coke bottle styling, with a range of larger Astron engines of up to 125 PS in 2.0 liter form, and the diesel model received GL or GLX trim. A fuel injected 150 PS 2000 Turbo was also available in some export markets. The five door liftback was never offered in North America, where buyers prefer traditional sedans. The Galant evolved from a compact sedan into a mid-size car over its life.
