Limited European sales of the Eclipse began in late 1991, at first only in Austria, Sweden and Switzerland, with other countries added gradually. In 1991 and later years both turbo models standardized on the 195 horsepower 4G63T, with the automatic models rated at 180 horsepower due to smaller injectors and turbocharger. The Eclipse was built by the Diamond-Star Motors joint venture at Normal, Illinois, in which Mitsubishi bought Chrysler's interest that year.
