The Carisma of 1997 was in its third year, a five door hatchback and four door saloon built at NedCar in Born. In 1997 the Lancer Evolution IV was offered through Ralliart dealers in Europe, and in several markets where the Lancer was not available the Evolution version was rebadged as the Mitsubishi Carisma GT. The Carisma competed with the likes of the Ford Mondeo in the traditionally conservative European company car market.
