The first generation Mini received a facelift in July 2004, which coincided with the introduction of the convertible variant, the R52, made from 2004 to 2008. It was referred to as the 2005 model year version in North America. The 2004 facelift gave the R50 and R53 new details and a refreshed look, and the open car completed the Mini range at Oxford. The R52 was available from the facelift, and built at the Oxford plant.
