The Mark IV ended in 1984 and was replaced by the Mark V, whose 25th anniversary was celebrated with a limited edition Mini 25 that publicised the recent upgrades to the model. In 1984 BL produced 34,974 Minis, the low point from which the car's fortunes would turn, with basic models such as the City and City E filling the bottom of the Austin Rover range. The Mini 25 was the first of a series of anniversary editions.
