In 1982 British Leyland made 56,297 Minis and over 175,000 Metros, showing the new car's dominance. The arrival of the Metro also had production of the larger Allegro pruned back before it was finally discontinued in 1982. The Mini was by then an old design that had begun in 1959, and the Mark IV was in its seventh year of production at Longbridge. The Mini continued at lower volumes, with the Metro leading the volume.
