The Mark III ended in 1976 as the Mark IV was introduced, though by this stage British Leyland was working on a new small car which was widely expected to replace the Mini before much longer. The Mark III had run from 1969, with the simple name Mini and winding windows and a rubber cone suspension. It was one of the best known British small cars. The Mark IV arrived within months of the end of the Mark III.
