The 1980 Zephyr was the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Fairmont, sharing its model range, with its distinctive four headlight front end and waterfall grille. For 1980 only a 120 horsepower turbocharged version of the 2.3 litre engine was available in Fairmont sedans and coupes, and the Zephyr, which was slotted between the Bobcat and the Monarch, was positioned below the larger Mercury cars. The Zephyr shared the rear wheel drive Ford Fox platform with the Fairmont.
