The Montego GT was offered from 1972 to 1973 as a counterpart of the Ford Gran Torino SportsRoof. Following the 1973 gas crisis, sales of the Montego line began to trend lower in response to industry wide fuel economy concerns. The Montego, a Mercury intermediate counterpart of the Ford Torino, was in the second year of its second generation, which began in 1972. It could be had with 351, 400 and 460 cubic inch V8 engines.
