For 1980 the Marquis received the four speed AOD overdrive automatic transmission as standard equipment with the 4.2 L V8, offered as an option with the 5.0 L and 5.8 L engines. The Marquis was offered as a two door sedan, a four door sedan and a five door station wagon, as a wood trim Colony Park or a body color Marquis wagon, and the Panther chassis was adopted by Lincoln for its downsized Continental. The third generation Marquis was a smaller Panther platform car that shared nearly its whole bodyshell with the Ford LTD.
