The 1980 Mercury Capri was offered in base trim and in Ghia, L, GS and RS forms, with the Capri RS and Turbo RS the equivalent of the Mustang GT, and early RS Capris could have the base four cylinder or even six cylinder engine. It was offered solely as a three door hatchback sharing the Fox platform with the Mustang, with a vertically mounted grille and dark tinted taillights with horizontally ribbed lenses. The second generation Capri was a three door hatchback on the Fox platform it shared with the Mustang.
