The Mazda3 was in its second full year in 2005, sold as a four door fastback sedan, called a four door coupe style in Europe, and a five door hatchback, which Canada, Japan and the United States called the Sport. Its front suspension used MacPherson struts and the rear a Ford designed E-link multilink layout. Engines ran from the 1.4 liter in Europe to the 2.3 liter, with a five speed manual and a four speed automatic.
