In 2010 the NC MX-5 was in its sixth year and on the Car and Driver 10Best list again. Lightly modified MX-5s were a popular choice for amateur circuit racing, and were the basis of spec racing series such as Spec Miata in the United States and the MaX5 Racing Championship in the United Kingdom, because the car was small, light and cheap to run. The roadster was built at Mazda's Hiroshima plant. The car kept a curb weight close to the 1,100 kilogram mark of earlier generations.
