The third generation MX-5, the NC, was introduced in 2005 with design cues from the Ibuki concept, and the generation brought a Power Retractable Hard Top. The MX-5 won Wheels magazine's Car of the Year for 2005, the Australian Car of the Year for 2005 and the Car of the Year Japan award for 2005 to 2006. The turbocharged Mazdaspeed MX-5 was still sold for the 2005 model year. The roadster was built at Mazda's Hiroshima plant.
