Car and Driver again named the CX-9 the best midsize SUV in its 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list for 2018, repeating its 2017 selection. The second generation was in its third year, the three row Skyactiv crossover with a turbocharged 2.5 liter engine and six speed automatic, built at the Ujina plant in Hiroshima and, like the first generation, not offered in the Japanese market. The second generation was built on the Skyactiv platform shared with the Mazdas introduced after 2011.
