In 2018 a choice of two four cylinder petrol engines was added to the CX-8, a 2.5 liter Skyactiv-G from the CX-5 and a turbocharged version of it from the CX-9, and five variants joined the Japanese range in November. The CX-8 went on sale in New Zealand on 20 June and in Australia on 1 July 2018, where it ranked below the slightly larger CX-9. Outside of Japan, the CX-8 is available in China, Oceania, and Southeast Asia.
