The Carol of 2017 was in its fourth year as the seventh generation, a kei car that Mazda sold and Suzuki manufactured, a rebadged version of the Suzuki Alto. Since 1989 it had been a model built by Suzuki for Mazda, and since late 1998 it had been strictly a badging exercise, without the unique bodywork of the first two modern generations. The Carol is a rebadged model manufactured by Suzuki for Mazda. The Carol was replaced as Suzuki released a replacement for the Alto.
