The Bongo was updated in September 1983 with the third generation, which also received new engines. The first generation Bongo Brawny was introduced in June 1983, three months before the regular Bongo. In Australia Ford also retailed the Bongo, with the commercial version known as the Ford Econovan and the passenger version as the Ford Spectron from 1983 to 1990. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
