A 626 GT, called the Turbo in Canada, was introduced in 1986 using a 120 horsepower FET engine. In the first quarter of 1986 the range was facelifted, with revised taillights and new, larger bumpers on the hatchback and coupe. In North America the 2.0 liter FE engine made up to 83 horsepower, and the car had larger bumpers and sealed beam headlights as required by federal regulations. Ford Asia Pacific sold the car as the Ford Telstar.
