In Japan the Capella came with 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 liter engines in 1979, the 2.0 being introduced only at the end of March. Most export markets received the second generation 626 that year. South African production of the Capella Rotary continued into 1979, since Sigma had decided not to build the second generation Capella there but to focus on the Colt Galant instead. This generation was rear wheel drive and sold in sedan and coupe forms.
