The 618 name lasted just one year, and was not used again in the United States, so the only federalized version of the Capella for 1973 was the rotary RX-2. In Japan the first generation Capella continued with its 1.5 and 1.6 liter engines, sold in sedan, coupe and wagon forms, as an intermediate model between the Familia and Luce, powered by four cylinder SOHC engines or the rotary. The car was named after Capella, the brightest star in the constellation Auriga.
