Lexus ES XV10 (second generation)

Automobiles

The second generation Lexus ES, XV10, was announced by Lexus in September 1991 for the 1992 model year, almost one year after the introduction of the second generation Acura Legend and before Infiniti decided to add a similar sedan, the J30. Its origin lay in 1987, when an entry-level front-wheel-drive Lexus model was ordered for development alongside the LS 400 and other offerings. A final design was chosen in late 1988 and design patents were filed on 3 February 1989 using a full-size clay model. The second generation ES shared its design with the new generation Toyota Windom of the same XV10 series, which was officially announced in Japan on 30 September 1991 and introduced at the October 1991 Tokyo Motor Show.
