In 1954 Lincolns took first and second place in the Pan American Road Race, and President Dwight Eisenhower had the Cosmopolitan convertible fitted with a Plexiglas roof that became known as the Bubble top, which remained in presidential service until 1965. 1954 was the last model year of the Cosmopolitan, which had been sold since 1949. All Lincolns were manufactured at Lincoln Assembly in Dearborn, Michigan. It was Lincoln's full size luxury car and a presidential state car.
