After the Second World War the Lincoln division of Ford returned the Continental to production as a 1946 model. Lincoln had dropped the Zephyr name after the war, so the postwar Continental was derived from the standard Lincoln, internally the H-Series. To attract buyers the design was refreshed with updated trim and distinguished by a new grille. The Continental of 1946 was a luxury coupe and cabriolet in the same personal luxury spirit as before the war.
